The bigger picture

For a principal who already spans horror, indies, and a studio dragon, Mason Thames’s next 24 months decide whether he becomes a fixture or a flash. The 2025–2026 slate of Regretting You, How to Train Your Dragon, and Black Phone 2 doesn’t just stretch his range — it tests whether audiences show up for the actor, not for the genre. For Thames, the choice is clear: keep pairing a buzzy horror sequel with the mainstream weight of a studio family film, or let a young, promising career be sorted into a single box by the market.
